Q&A: This is ombræ
It was a pleasure to interview ombræ and to learn more about his beginnings, his musical influences, and what’s next. Below is our interview. Be sure to check out the playlist at the end and support his future musical projects!
How did you get into making music?
I always had a passion and curiosity for music and more so I have the constant need to express myself through art so during the pandemic I learned the basic of making music and started developing a style that was suitable for myself and what I was trying to communicate with it.
Who are some of your favorite musicians/inspirations?
I think that everybody who puts the soul in their art has a really strong influence on me. Because as a listener, I can clearly hear and feel the different layers of emotions in the music and in my opinion it’s the best way to craft a work that stands out the test of time. RIP to Nujabes and shoutout to idealism, kudasai, my musical partner godzhiller, Kaiyo and everybody I forgot to mention.
What is your dream goal for your music career?
Definitely being able to keep a level of consistency in which I can release music and at the same time being able to communicate emotions freely to a growing audience. I think it’s very rare to do so these days.
How do you plan on reaching that goal?
My plan is very simple. Got to stay focused and rooted while aiming for the stars. Plus experiencing and expanding your vision is a key to achieve your personal goals.
What do you want the listener to get from listening to your music? A particular message or feeling?
When I create music or art the goal is always expressing a range of emotions. So I would really love if the listener can feel what I was going through or thinking at the time and recognize itself in it.
Where do you see your music career in five years?
Growing up I always felt too worried about my past or future, so during this journey I would really love to focus on the present and appreciate the moment I’m in while I write these words and feeling very grateful.
What is your favorite song from your discography and why?
Can’t choose your favorite baby ahah. But one of my favorites is definitely “mauve waves” with godzhiller from the “10 AM Study Session” by Kanimayo Lofi because it’s a song that gets to share the light with a lot of other talented artists on a compilation and that’s my first song getting that recognition and it makes me proud of the work I did the past months.
If you were granted one wish, what would you do with it?
Editorial playlisting for every release, thank you Spotify and Apple Music ahah. Just joking. I would work in a well designed studio with A1 instruments with godzhiller and the best sound engineer to craft the smoothest songs ever.
