Ravyn Lenae – ‘Love Is Blind’

Ravyn Lenae is back with the single ‘Love Is Blind’ off her upcoming sophomore album ‘Bird’s Eye’ which is slated to come out on August 9th! In an era when songs regularly clock in well under three minutes, ‘Love Is Blind’ feels like a full course meal in comparison at nearly four minutes. A lovely instrumental begins the song before Lenae’s soft, smooth vocals take over, drawing the listener in immediately.

The lyrics tell the tale of the ambiguous end of a relationship, with the singer unsure if she should give it one more try before ending it all. The back and forth adds to the drama of the song with the singer’s voice soaring once the bridge and chorus hits towards the second half of the track. In the end, the singer triumphs in ending things for good and getting her former flame “out of my mind”. I was instantly reminded of Tamia’s 2004 classic ‘Officially Missing You’, another R&B track about yearning for a former flame, complete with the beautiful use of guitar strings.

The Chicago singer-songwriter’s 2022 critically-acclaimed debut album HYPNOS drew in listeners around the world, setting the stage for a promising future. If ‘Love Is Blind’ is anything to go by, ‘Bird’s Eye’ should bring this rising star to a larger audience.
