Morgan Wallen - Love Somebody

Country tune with a Spanish guitar.

Morgan Wallen is arguably the biggest singer in the world, male or female. His album sales dwarf even Taylor Swift when looking at pure sales. His most recent smash album “One Thing at a Time” is now seven times platinum and spent an unprecedented 19 weeks at number one on the Billboard 200, a record for any country album in recorded history! In a nod to country’s mass appeal, his songs regularly reach the top five in the Hot 100 with no one batting an eye. He’s taken the Garth Brooks and Shania Twain approach to crossover appeal and maximized it.

What I find impressive with Wallen is his ability to switch up his sound just enough to keep the listener guessing. From the easy listening mode of “7 Summers”, the proud “My Hometown” to his rowdy party anthem with Post Malone, “I Had Some Help”, Morgan is a country singer with pop singer sensibilities. He’s even collaborated with the famous rapper Lil Durk in their huge hit “Girls Like You”. Through it all, he’s adapting his voice enough for each genre shift without losing the country essence of his gravelly, powerful voice.

His second single from his upcoming fourth album is called “Love Somebody”. The song finds him searching for his true love, wherever she is out there. The use of the Spanish guitar gives the song a Latin vibe and is a nice left field curveball by the country megastar. I definitely felt a connection to the classic “Hotel California” by the Eagles. The song is a bit melancholic and Wallen’s voice definitely sells the message of the song. A perfect song to listen to the next time you’re on a road trip, Morgan Wallen has knocked it out of the park again!
