Kiana Ledé - Too Many Strings

Beautiful late night vibes.

“Too Many Strings” is the new single from R&B singer Kiana Ledé’s newly-released album “Cut Ties”. It features beautiful string instrumentation as Kiana sings about a love that comes with too many strings. Love features heavily in her music and I’ve been a fan of hers ever since her 2018 EP “Selfless”. With a soft but powerful voice, Kiana Ledé’s music reminds me a lot of her contemporaries Kehlani and Summer Walker. Unfortunately, that leaves her kind of lost in the shuffle of so many talented female R&B singers, with a lot of her music being mistaken for those two artists or their many copycats.

Her newest single features her crystalline voice more as she pleadingly sings about a love that’s too complicated for her liking. Sure, the themes and production have been done to death at this point but I enjoyed the fact that Kiana is not “talk-singing” in this track. In the last decade, R&B has been inundated with singers who “talk-sing” throughout a track, their voices staying in the same octave. While in the beginning it was seen as a novel vocal style, it’s lent itself to the belief that R&B is boring and is only to be played at night, preferably after midnight. “Too Many Strings” is a good attempt at carving out a new lane for a singer with a nice voice but who has struggled to stand out amidst a sea of Summer Walker and Kehlani clones.
