JoJo - Ready To Love

Sultry 2000s-style R&B jam.

At the tender age of 34, JoJo is now entering the fourth iteration of her music career. Her first was as a major teen pop idol in the TRL era way back in the early 2000s. With hits such as “Leave (Get Out)” and “Too Little Too Late”, she was poised to become a superstar before things went awry. The second iteration was her exile from the music industry due to contractual issues that lasted for nearly a decade, silencing the golden-voiced singer. The third iteration was her comeback and reintroduction as an adult singer that reminded listeners of her great voice even if it didn’t translate to big hits and album sales. The latest iteration is her move to becoming an independent artist. While the days of a major music label heavily pushing her music are over for now, the creative freedom she now has is seen in her latest single “Ready to Love” from her excellent new EP “NGL”.

“Ready To Love” is a slinky, sexy pop-R&B song about a woman who is frustrated with her current lover and is contemplating moving on from the relationship. Sounding confident and mature, JoJo’s voice glides over a 2000s-style pop-R&B groove as she defiantly threatens to get on a flight to see someone who is ready to love her fully. The chorus is very catchy and the Anita Baker reference reflects JoJo’s love and respect to the R&B legends of the past. With nearly 675,000 Spotify streams, the song is well on its way to hitting the one million streams milestone, a positive accomplishment for an independent artist.
