Coldplay - All My Love
A fitting final single.
In 1999, Coldplay released their debut single, a little-remembered track called “Brothers & Sisters”. The following year, they would sign with Parlophone and after the breakthrough of their worldwide smash “Yellow”, the rest was history. With over 100 million albums sold worldwide, they have gone on to become one of the biggest rock bands ever. With classic hits such as “Clocks”, “Viva La Vida” and my personal favorite, “The Scientist", their melancholy tunes have been the soundtrack of my life and the lives of their millions of other fans.
Coldplay has stated that “All My Love” will be their final official single. Naturally, the song does seem to signal the end of an era and can be seen as a paean to their fans for their decades of continued support. The song is a back-to-basics piano ballad that evokes Paul McCartney’s classic work with the Beatles as well as the legendary tunes of Elton John. It also doubles as the perfect wedding song of which I’m sure we will see many appearances of it in the decades to come.
The band will release two more albums before calling it quits, so the end is near. I wouldn’t be surprised if they continued to tour in their 50s, 60s and beyond a la The Rolling Stones, Elton John, and Paul McCartney. Until then, let’s relish this final proper single from a band that has given us so much great music!
