Bukola - i know i'm a hopeless romantic
Breezy acoustic pop soul about being a hopeless romantic.
The talented Canadian-Nigerian singer-songwriter Bukola is back with her latest single “i know i'm a hopeless romantic”. A charming song, its production and lyricism kind of reminds me of Jennifer Paige’s great 1990s hit “Crush”, although Bukola’s song is much more innocent and longing, typifying the the classic coming-of-age yearning for love.
Bukola’s voice is quite impressive, with her rich deep middle range and the ability to hit a beautiful falsetto when she sings “come true”. I loved the lyricism about finding love while reading books and waiting for her prince charming to arrive at her doorstep. It’s very innocent and a breath of fresh air in these times when subtlety and longer songs with a bridge, three verses and a strong chorus are hard to find!
I look forward to checking out more of her music. Her songs “I’m Not From California” and “Fabric Of My Being” speak to her identify as a Canadian-Nigerian woman, adding biographical notes to a slight but solid discography so far. I can definitely hear her inspirations Corinne Bailey Rae and India Arie in the few songs she has released. With those great artists as inspirations, here’s hoping Bukola’s career continues to rise to higher heights!
