Q&A: This is Monolux
I instantly fell in love with Monolux’s music when I first heard it and I have been listening to his songs daily ever since. It was a pleasure to interview him and to learn more about his beginnings, his music journey so far and what’s next. Below is our interview.
1.) How did you get started making music?
When I was younger I played with records and cassette tapes from my parents so get in touch with some music. Later after high school I started DJing and started a 90s hiphop vinyl collection. In the same year I got in touch with producing music with friends. Learned to play drums by myself, a bit of piano and later using Ableton Live.
2.) What inspires you when making music?
Vibes, after watching a movie or anime show or walking in the woods or city.
3.) Tell me about your latest release.
My latest release is a track with Young Scorsese called ''Magic Bird'' . He’s a guy I’ve known for years thru other friends.
After hearing this beat on my socials he started laying verses. He connected with me, and for a week we were sending things back and forth. The process was fast and efficient.
His voice really matched the old boom bap vibe sound of the track. And it is his debut. So that's cool!
4.) What is your next project?
My next project is a release on ''Lifted Records'' called ''Tree Swing''. It is a lofi chill beat where I played some soft piano parts on a laidback chill beat.
And I just sent a new beat to Young Scorsese.
5.) Have you received fan feedback on your music? If so, how does it make you feel?
Yes! I did… some of friends, producers, label owners, playlist makers and lofi listeners. With mixed feedback about my tracks.
I enjoy both because I can learn of the things they didn't liked or feel and when they vibe with it, it gives me even more motivation to continue.
6.) Name a few lofi hip hop artists that you are a fan of.
I enjoy the sound of 'FKJ' but I don't know if you can consider that as lofi but they are chill beats and his piano parts are super nice.
The vibe on the tracks from 'L.Dre' I can listen to all day long... the way how he flipped some of the anime theme songs are crazy!
