Bailey Zimmerman - Holding On

Country music is often noted for its great storytelling and heartfelt lyrics. In an age of “bro country”, Bailey Zimmerman’s “Holding On” is a breath of fresh air. With a voice that sounds a bit like his good friend Morgan Wallen and emotional lyrics about helping someone when they’re down and never giving up, it’s always nice to hear an inspirational ballad from a male singer. “Holding On” tells the listener that despite their hardships, tomorrow may bring positive change.

It’s a sentiment that’s cliche at this point but Bailey’s vocal performance really brings the earnestness and honesty that you need to sell a song like this. While I’m not the biggest country fan and I had never heard of Zimmerman before this, it’s pretty impressive how successful he’s been in the two years since his breakthrough debut “Fall In Love”.

In a sign that country music is crossing over and becoming the dominant music genre, many of Bailey Zimmerman’s songs regularly reach the top 40 of the Hot 100, a sure sign that his music is reaching the pop audience too. I look forward to hearing what his new album will sound like. Building off the success of his 2023 debut album “Religously. The Album.”, here’s hoping Bailey doesn’t have that dreaded sophomore slump.
